[Cameo] Milk Carton

I keep seeing cute milk cartons pop up on crafty blogs I follow. So far as I know, none of my cricut cartridges can do it. And I only have a Big Shot, so I can't work with the Sizzix die for it.

So naturally, when my Silhouette Cameo arrived the FIRST thing I did was get the milk carton cut file and make it.

Alright, my house is FINALLY clean post multiple weekends of travel in a row. I still have one yet-to-be-unpacked bag, but it's small. As such, I've updated quite a few websites this weekend as well. Time for this blog:

[Halloween] So Much Glitter!

So I get the feeling that Martha Stewart really really likes Halloween. I would have expected her to make cutesy stuff for kids. But no, Martha goes for creepy. Classy creepy, like pottery barn.

And unlike some of my halloweenie breathren, I like glitter on Halloween. That's right, it's all my fault that Target keeps coming out with glittered halloween. But my perspective is: with all the lights off, the glitter will catch what little light there is and draw attention to the creepy decor without having to have a spotlight.

Also, I'm a girl. And I love that commercial. Thus the post title. Zombies are cold-blooded too right? Like the dinosaurs.

So I saw this on Martha Stewart's site:

[Halloween] Pottery Barn, eat your heart out!

I'm cheap. I also don't want to drive all the way across town to Pottery Barn (unless they have that one thing I MUST see). I pretty much love all of Pottery Barn's halloween stuff. But...I can't bring myself to spend all that money.

For instance, I love this. It's the right level of creepy, but can be displayed all month for me. But 24.50?

So I made my own, using a $2 pack of moss and 2 $1.49 skulls from Michael's.

Mine, which kind of looks like a creepy trifle. 

I think it looks pretty creepy. And it cost me all of $5. A WINNER IS ME!

Magnets (Create-a-critter)

Look at my new fridge magnets I made with my cricut! These are prototypes for other magnets, so I didn't use the official provocraft magnetic material or the vinyl. I have the magnet sheets, but I'll probably never buy the vinyl from provocraft. I'm lucky and there's a store about 10 minutes from my house that sells 12x24 sheets for $3. It's not as removable as the provocraft stuff claims to be, but I'm not removing it for this project.

So check out my gator, pig, dino, tweet-like bird and whale. It's hard to see the black accents (which I don't think will be black on version 2) because of the fridge. But still, I think they are adorable!

These were pretty easy, although lining up the vinyl isn't simple. I put the black layer of vinyl on the magnet sheet, then hooked up my gypsy and cut out all the shapes with the deep cut blade out of the vinyl'd magnet. Then I cut out all the vinyl colors and layered them as if it were paper (only no glue needed).

Again, for the vinyl, I used the ARS cutting guide which said to have speed at 3, pressure at 2 and blade depth at 3. Regular blade, no multicut. And I advise a VERY WELL LIT (I used the dining room table) to pull the negative vinyl off so you don't lose any little pieces. And a sewing pin makes an EXCELLENT way to remove all the little spots that are the negative but didn't pull with it (like the cheeks on the pig). And this is with the create-a-critter cartridge.

I also got the Tinkerbell, Hello Kitty, and Doodlecharm cartridges as well as the Savory and Lacy Labels lite cartridges in. AND I FINALLY HAVE THE SCRAPPER TOOL. So I'll do something with them this weekend to play a bit.

Experimenting with my Cricut

I tested the adhesive felt a while back. Today, I just wanted to play. So first I tested a scrap of craft foam thinking "I have TONS of this leftover". Again, using the Storybook cartridge, partly because those are the letters I want, partly because I think it's my only font cartridge.

Looks okay right? But small? Well, keep going for an ugly mess. 

Feather Headbands

I really have no idea what to call these other than the above. They are feathers on padding attached to a metal headband. But I thought I would share:

I couldn't get a good picture of it on me, so I had to put it on a blonde wig. So far I like the black one the best, but I still haven't gotten the vote from my fashionista friend. 

Marble Magnets

I told you the snow was making me crazy. And look at me, doing a post every few days. Well, actually I usually make 2 at a time and schedule them!

Today, I'm gonna give you a glimpse into my Saturday evening (as the night was spent eating delicious honey butter croissants at Cheddars with friends!). I went a little nuts at Hobby Lobby and Michael's and picked up the marbles and a circle punch to make these:

Some were still drying when I took the picture, so they seem kind of foggy, but they all turned out pretty well! I made 197 of them if I'm remembering the count correctly. 

I can't find the blog that I got the idea from, though it's certainly not new. In fact, i felt very 70s doing it. Instructions are all over the internet, just google "marble magnets". 

Banner with Accuquilt and Cricut

I think the snow is making me go nuts with the crafting. This time, it's a banner for when I inevitably try to venture into shows of sorts. At least that's the plan. Until then, it's likely to hang on the bookshelves, where I think it will look amazing!

Feeling Crafty

So the point of this blog is not simply to be a sewing blog, but to be an everything crafty blog. On that note, I'd still consider this a bit of sewing, but it's also a bit crafty.

Around New Years I bought/downloaded a set of patterns on etsy to make fabric flowers. I've since decided that the one that actually takes the most work is my favorite (maybe because I can replicate it the best). I made the bib necklace, but I'm still not sure if I like what I made. I tried to use stuff I already had in my stash. Luckily, pleather is one of those things...and boy do I have it. I've actually cut out enough to make 12 and still have enough brown pleather to make a pair of pants! Which is good because that's one of the things I bought it for.

So without further ado...fabric flowers galor!

This is the type I really like. I've put it on a hair comb. I think it looks best like that. 

Sewing Room Update and a Tutu

Well, I should be mostly done with the sewing room by the end of the weekend. All except the cutting table top which a coworker is making for me. Saturday the boys are moving my armoire and I'm cooking steak, corn on the cob, and okra for them and their wives/girlfriends/fiances in exchange.

But today was a major victory! After about a week of daily calling, Target finally had my shelves in stock. Last week they had them 20% off but ran out, so I got a rain check. I've been told something different every time I call and pretty much stopped paying attention and just calling every day. Finally today they had them. It took 3 hours to assemble the first one, but I'm still really excited!
